ELEN GERA

(sometimes named as Ellen due to a possible translation's lost )

Elen Gera was born, grew up and reached artistry in Moscow. Born in the heart of Moscow, in the house next to the Church on Brusov, behind of the Moscow Government building and opposite the famous Composer's House, from the early age she expressed the artistic talent that brought the award of the Surikov Art School and enrolment in under exceptional case when she was 8 years old. Painting studies at the Surikov School and at the Grem Kalinovsky�s art studio gave her sure basis and freedom for creative work. Russian School of Art had a great influence on her work as far the Italian culture she studied closely along her first art exhibitions since 1993. In Moscow, 1998, the first exhibition, sponsored by DialogBank, took place. 1999-2000 - at the Triumph Gallery, Moscow. Since 1999 - permanent at GeraGallery, and temporary exhibitions at the others galleries and places in Moscow and  abroad. She participated in the art projects at Nina Stevens house.

 There are two series in her creative work, mutually complementary, 2 sides of reality, action and contemplation, senses and emotions, conscious and subconscious:  spiritual, Bible, nature in lyrical, peaceful realistic works �Contemplation� and sophisticated expressive vulnerable and mystical abstract works, devoted to the research of human nature "Playing with subconscious".  Natalya Miszhenko, the Doctor of Medicine, an expert of Tibetan medical practice (Research Institute of alternative medicine, Russian Academy of Sciences), publicly proclaimed with profound reverence and veneration at the art-project opening, 2004 � her paintings beam the warmth as the holy icons!!!�.

These splendid complete works of art draw your attention, may be more or less stimulating or exciting, or comprehensible but obviously they took up the certain bright position in the contemporary art. The work is a hymn to the Life, which is so multi-stratum, changing and fascinating. And as the reflection of this composite Life with its fast changing and of different interpretations of its reality there is �a variety of artistic instruments of the performance of energy of emotions or senses inspired by the idea�(Gera), so as to approximate to the complete picture of life.

The one range of paintings named �Contemplation� has the logical order of forms, colours and expressed ideas, as dominant, distinguishing characteristic. Eugenia Doronkina, critic, "Report from Bell'Art":�The series of works named �Contemplation�, in my opinion,  is the artist�s sensation of the harmony of the universe, and simultaneous perception of human greatness and insignificance. These pictures touch on conciliation and serenity, and issues of God and beliefs.. The series �Playing with subconscious� � is the dream, fantasy, something impalpable  �  this is  paradox!  There are no clear forms but you read them. There is no consistency but completion. I would like to stop on �ADAM APPLE�. It is hard to express the feeling it gives by words because it lights on the subject which is deep inside of subconscious  and has no name. It has something maternal, warm, milky, sacred, it is the beginning, it is  what was before the whole, very simple and incredible sophisticated, empty and easy but filled and tight , the center and the null  in the same time,  but the time doesn�t� exist there, this is the fruit as result, the idea, the feeling, the foreseeing. Such kind of paintings can�t be estimated, because they are part of eternity and were brought to us by it through one chosen, the genius. �

Known as a creator of unusal interesting concept and presentation of the art-projects, Elen Gera participates in ARTs-2003. Today she is the most brilliant young talents in art with own style and phylosochy. Her paintings and photopictures are in  private and corporate collections in the different part of the world. In the begining of 90' she was a curator of the "Russian Art" exhibitions in Italy, followed by solo-exhibition of her drawings and paintings, mostly landscapes, although even in the works of these years we see the trace of the demand for new forms of expression in visual art. First serious abstract works had appeared in 1999. Since than we can speak of the two series of her work: "Contemplation" and "Playing with subconsious" and some of the new works of these series along with the well-known widely are presented on ARTs . "Bell'Art: more than visual" � new project of  GeraGallery, that took place on Moscow Contemporary Art Fair ARTs-2003 supported by Ministry of Culture, by Art Experts Association, The Visual Arts and crafts Fund, Charitable foundation VEGA, 28.09.2003 in the Sokolniki Exhibition Center.

The labyrinth of exposition, according the author conception, reminds the brain structure. There is emotional sphere, expressed in colours and lines, and the world of logic in images of the reflected reality. The both parts create the common space that has in the center the black tunnel fulfilled by images of hidden meaning.

The two series of artwork demonstrate different perceptions of reality and possibilities of its interpretations. Every issue bears the imprint of keen artistic perception and deep insight of the outer world or inner life and requires the undivided attention to explore that it has to show.

 �The contemplation� shows majestic, picturesque sceneries and forms drawing our imagination towards beauty and peace in mind within positive emotions it makes, the abstract works talks individually and it differs from that what the other may see because the paintings draws the personal hidden emotions, thoughts and ideas out of subconscious in the stream of apparitions and vivid imagery. The hustle shall be slowed down to let you light upon the secrets to let your vision to extend beyond the border of the frame or bigotry, fixed belief, preconception, of time and space and being free of to broaden your horizons. The sensation of freedom is important issue of Gera�s work. As accompaniment, the essay �Substance of Freedom� was presented during the project . " A Man Freedom is of great importance, but mostly in strictly structured society,  when everybody senses the load of the regulations and the conventionalities.  This had brought me to this subject�, she writes in the foreword of this essay...For Elen a word, a sound, a line, a colour are instruments for generating ideas and images, and her essay "Substance of Freedom" presented here on ARTs  and during "Bell'Art" in 2001"  as Elen Gera says "is the result of the research, recorded in images, which are made not from colours and forms, but  captured in letters and sound.  The sound-writing fires the reader's imagination, involving conscious and subconscious, creates associative mapping of new reality, which shows the treasures and secrets of objective existence�. We understand the sound-writing as one more powerful instrument of creating the images by using the rhythm and sound in sayings/writings along the sense of words and expression. I explored this essay when i was making the report from the "Bell'ART" project in 2001. It changed my life."
